The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) said that the sharp rise in malnutrition rates among children and pregnant and lactating women in the Gaza Strip poses serious threats to their lives.

The UN organization added that as the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip entered its 20th week, food supplies and potable water became extremely scarce and infectious diseases spread, affecting the nutrition and immunity of women and children and leading to an increase in cases of acute malnutrition.

UNICEF, the World Food Program and the World Health Organization called for urgent provision of safe, sustainable and unhindered access to multidisciplinary humanitarian assistance throughout the Gaza Strip.
