On Monday evening, a Hebrew channel revealed a sharp letter sent by the Minister of the Israeli War Council, Gadi Eisenkot, to the same council, in which he warned of the increasing difficulty in achieving the goals of the war in Gaza.

The private Hebrew channel 12 said: Minister Gadi Eisenkot sent a long and detailed warning letter about a week ago to the members of the War Council criticizing the decisions of the forum of which he is a member.

She added that Eisenkot wrote in his letter: After more than 4 months of war, it is appropriate to evaluate achievements and study trends for continuity.

Eisenkot continued: In my opinion, in light of avoiding making decisive and important decisions, there is an increasing difficulty in achieving the goals of the war.

He continued in his message: The strategic plan for the war has faltered, and it practically threatens the achievement of the war’s objectives and, moreover, the strategic position of the State of Israel, according to the same source.

Eisenkot said that the goal of reducing the military and authoritarian capabilities of Hamas was only partially achieved, as were the return of detainees from the Gaza Strip and the restoration of security to the residents of the Gaza envelope area.

He considered that the case for ending the war so that Gaza does not pose a future threat to Israel had not been achieved, as well as enhancing the personal security and national resilience of Israelis.

He continued: Practically speaking, no decisive decisions have been taken in 3 months. The war is conducted according to tactical achievements, without major movements to achieve strategic achievements.

Eisenkot explained that there are decisions that the War Council must take, including a full transition to the third phase, which is the phase of concentrated raids with positioning behind a security strip (belt) outside the Gaza Strip, and implementing a deal to exchange prisoners before the advent of next Ramadan.

The decisions that Eisenkot called for to be taken also include preventing escalation in the West Bank as Ramadan approaches, the return of Israeli residents to their homes in the north and south after they were displaced from them following the outbreak of war, and pushing towards finding a civilian alternative to Hamas’ rule in Gaza, according to Channel 12.

At the end of his letter, Eisenkot criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the term he coined - complete victory - and said that it was right for the War Council to seriously discuss this concept and clarify it practically, according to the same source.

Until now, there has been no comment from the Israeli authorities regarding Eisenkot's message.

It is noteworthy that Eisenkot served as Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army from 2015 to 2019, and his son and nephew were killed in December 2023 in battles in the Gaza Strip.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip that has left tens of thousands of martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure, which led to Tel Aviv being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide. .
