Alexei Navalny's mother's appeal to Vladimir Putin

Where is the body of the opponent declared dead by the Russian prison services on Friday February 16? His mother and his lawyers find closed doors everywhere and no response. The body will be kept for at least 14 days - it can be up to 30 days according to Russian rules - said his team. The opponent's mother therefore tried to appeal to Vladimir Putin on Tuesday February 20.

On Telegram, X or YouTube, in a handful of seconds, the video was published on social networks this Tuesday, February 20 at midday. We see in front of the image a figure dressed in black, sunglasses on his eyes, a marble face. It's Alexeï Navalny's mother, standing in the snow of the Russian Arctic with barbed wire behind her. “

Behind me is the IK-3 “polar wolf” colony, where my son Alexei Navalny died on February 16,

” she says in this short 32-second video. “

It’s been 5 days and I can’t see him. They won't give me his body, and they won't even tell me where he is. I appeal to you, Vladimir Putin, the solution to this problem depends only on you. Let me finally see my son. I ask that Alexei's body be returned without delay so that I can bury him humanely

.”

A complaint, we learned from the Navalny team, was also filed before the local court for “

 inaction of the investigative committee

”. To date, nearly 70,000 people have already written to this committee to request that the body be returned to the family.

The Kremlin has repeated from the start that the investigation is not the responsibility of the presidential administration. Late this Monday, February 19 in any case, two ukases signed by Vladimir Putin were published: rewards and promotions for two deputy directors of the prison service, as well as two department heads of the same administration.

Another decree published at the same time and another promotion from the hand of the Russian head of state, this time for the investigator in charge of the investigations into the murder of Anna Politkovskaya. The sponsors of the assassination of the journalist shot dead in the elevator of her building in 2006 have never been found. And the statute of limitations expired in the fall of 2021.

This presidential gesture also comes as Navalny's team has promised revelations about his death and the upcoming publication of a list of people deemed responsible, including executives of the Russian prison service.
