The Palestinian groom, Mahmoud Khaziq, and his wife, Shaima, did not join the list of victims of the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, as local and Arab media reported yesterday, Monday, after pictures of them during their wedding ceremony were published as part of news about the killing of newlyweds in a raid that targeted the city of Rafah two days after their marriage.

The groom, Khaziq, told Anadolu’s correspondent, “I got married last Friday, and I am alive, thank God,” noting that the news that was published on some media outlets and social networking sites talks about two other newlyweds from the Abu Nahl family who got married in the city of Rafah.

He added, "I am still living in my tent and all I need is prayers. My joy at the wedding is not complete, and God willing, when the war ends, I will go out with my wife on an Umrah trip, and there we will spend our honeymoon and make up for our incomplete joy."

The young Palestinian hopes that the Israeli aggression on Gaza will end as soon as possible.

Last Friday, the Palestinian Khaziq held a simple wedding ceremony in a camp for displaced people in the city of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, with the participation of his family members, friends, and neighbors who were displaced in the camp.

The Palestinian groom said at the time, "This is my wedding, but the joy is incomplete. I was hoping that things would be calm, and that we would celebrate in a large event hall."

He added, "We left our home in Gaza City under bombardment and under fire from the Israeli army, and were displaced to the city of Deir al-Balah. Therefore, the wedding that was scheduled to be held last October was postponed."

Despite the horrors of war and the harsh refugee conditions, Khaziq stressed that “our wedding cannot remain on hold any longer, so we decided to hold a simple ceremony in which we would bring joy to our exhausted hearts and to the hearts of our neighbors and friends who are displaced here.”

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of civilian victims, most of them children and women, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction of infrastructure, which led to Tel Aviv being brought before the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide. .
