In current opinion polls, US President Joe Biden is only moderately popular, while his likely competitor for the autumn elections – Donald Trump – enjoys high approval ratings. But now scientists have published an analysis in which the incumbent US president clearly leaves his predecessor behind.

The “Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey” analyzes the achievements of all 45 US presidents to date. Biden comes in 14th place in the new evaluation, while Trump is at the bottom. More than 150 political scientists, sociologists and historians who are currently researching US politics cast their votes in the survey. The analysis therefore provides an expert view of the political performance in the White House.

The terms of office sorted by “greatness”.

"Biden's greatest achievement may be that he was able to save the presidency from Trump," write Justin Vaughn from Boise State University and Brandon Rottinghaus from the University of Houston, the initiators of the survey. He led the office in a more “traditional” way again.

For the evaluation, the respondents had to sort the terms of office according to “greatness”, i.e. give an assessment of how well a president worked. Values ranged from 0 to 100, with 0 representing policy failure. Trump achieved the worst value with 10.92 points, Abraham Lincoln achieved the highest value with 93.87 points. Biden is in the upper middle field with 62.66 points, while his Democratic predecessor Barack Obama is in the top ten with 73.8 points.

The survey was conducted among scientists from both political camps, i.e. both Democratic and Republican supporters. Regardless of expert opinion, Trump is popular in the Republican camp. In all likelihood, the 77-year-old will run as the Republican presidential candidate in November against the 81-year-old Biden, who has already been confirmed for the Democrats.

There would then be a repeat of the 2020 US presidential election: Four years ago, Biden replaced real estate mogul Trump after just one term in the White House.
