The government says that if it abolishes the technical intern training system and introduces a new development work system, it will encourage the transition to specific skills that will lead to permanent residence, and is expected to increase the number of foreigners who receive permanent residence permits.

On the other hand, there are cases where even after becoming a permanent resident, they do not pay taxes or social insurance premiums, their status is not revoked, or they repeatedly commit crimes such as theft that are punishable by imprisonment or imprisonment for up to one year.

For this reason, the Immigration Services Agency will cancel your permanent residence permit or give you another option if you repeatedly fail to pay taxes or social insurance premiums, or if you are sentenced to imprisonment for one year or less for crimes such as theft. We have decided to review the status of residence system so that the status of residence can be changed.

The government also plans to establish a system in which local government officials will report to the Immigration Services Agency if foreign nationals do not fulfill their obligations such as paying taxes.

The Immigration Services Agency is expected to submit a related bill in the current Diet session.
