“In February, employees who work a five-day work week will have three days off: February 23, 24 and 25. In March there are also three days: from the 8th to the 10th. On the pre-holiday days, February 22 and March 7, the working day is expected to be shortened by an hour,” explained Yulia Sanina, director of personnel and organizational development at Raboty.ru.

The expert noted that wages will not be reduced either in February or March due to holidays.

“However, in these months the cost per working day will be higher than in other months with more working days. The peculiarities of paying advance payments due to holidays are that employers can change the wage payment schedule due to weekends, since bank transfers and other operations will take longer due to non-working days,” said RT’s interlocutor.

In addition, 2024 is a leap year. However, this will not affect salary calculations for those who receive a salary, since in this case the employee is paid a fixed amount for the calendar month worked, the specialist recalled.

“If an employee was not on sick leave, on time off or on vacation, at the end of February he is accrued the same salary as in other months. Holidays may affect salary if an employee takes additional days off or vacation. Then it is possible to reduce wages for days worked,” she emphasized.

In addition, according to her, February and March are unprofitable months for vacation in 2024, since they have a large number of days off and only 20 working days.

“Consequently, the cost of one day worked is higher, which means that the total income of an employee who rested during such months will be lower than if he worked a full month,” Sanina recalled.

An employee can work on holidays and receive additional payments for this, she added.

“According to the Labor Code, the employer must pay no less than one and a half times the first two hours of overtime, and then no less than double the amount. The employee may also ask to replace such payment with an additional day off. However, it is worth understanding that this does not apply to employees who work on a shift schedule. In this case, if they have working days on holidays, payment at an increased rate is not provided,” the specialist concluded.
