China News Service, Munich, February 18 (Reporter Ma Xiuxiu) During the 60th Munich Security Conference, Fu Ying, former Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, attended the "Enhancing Defense: Security in the Indo-Pacific" forum on the 17th and said that in the context of world conflicts, In the future, Asia’s long-term peace and economic prosperity should be cherished even more.

Fu Ying mentioned that Asian countries have generally achieved economic growth in the past few decades. In 2023, Asia's GDP will reach 40% of the world's GDP, while in the 1990s it only accounted for about 15%.

Based on her personal experience, she described how ASEAN played a central role in regional cooperation and received support from China, and how the regional dialogue and cooperation framework gradually grew. She pointed out that Asian countries have established bonds of trust through years of patient and sincere dialogue and opened up a multi-level economy. Cooperate to build a common security awareness in terms of security. The signing of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) reflects the spirit of trust and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, and consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC) are now underway.

Talking about U.S. Asia-Pacific policy, Fu Ying said that after the Cold War, the United States first focused on the transformation of Central and Eastern Europe, and then engaged in the war on terrorism. During this period, it did not pay attention to peace, stability and economic prosperity in Asia. An important reason why the United States is now shifting its strategic focus to Asia is that it sees Asia's economic success, the most important of which is China's rapid development. However, the strategy implemented by the United States after its "pivot to Asia" is not to integrate into the peaceful development of the region, but to try to reverse the regional development trend.

She said that China opposes the establishment of small multilateral security mechanisms in Asia. These exclusive security mechanisms are not in line with the way of thinking of common security and are not conducive to regional stability. From Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s speech at this year’s Security Council meeting, we can see China’s sense of responsibility as a major power and its positive attitude towards international cooperation. China has proposed global security initiatives, respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries, attaches importance to the legitimate security concerns of all countries, and insists on peacefully resolving differences and disputes between countries through dialogue and consultation. This is also recognized by most countries in Asia.

At the scene, Fu Ying also explained issues such as Taiwan, the South China Sea and the Korean Peninsula. (over)
