As it approaches two years since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine, a conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine will be held in Tokyo on the 19th. In an interview with NHK, Foreign Minister Kamikawa expressed his intention to continue to provide long-term support by building international momentum for reconstruction and working together with the public and private sectors.

Foreign Minister Kamikawa gave an interview to NHK ahead of the ``Japan-Ukraine Economic Reconstruction Promotion Conference'' to be held on the 19th, which will be attended by Prime Minister Kishida, Ukrainian Prime Minister Shmikhali, and other relevant officials from both countries.



First, looking back on his visit to Ukraine last month, he said, ``I experienced a very harsh reality, with the vivid scars of invasion everywhere.I realized that the people of Ukraine have very strong expectations for Japan's knowledge and technology.'' ” he said.



He then emphasized, ``I would like to make the conference a success no matter what, and build up international cooperation and momentum to achieve recovery and reconstruction together with the people of Ukraine.''



Approximately 130 companies from both countries will participate in the conference, and the plan is to propose support measures in seven areas, including agriculture and infrastructure strengthening.



Minister Kamikawa said, ``Private-sector involvement is essential for recovery and reconstruction.As this will be a long-term effort towards rebuilding people's lives and the country, we will be able to continue to move forward with detailed public-private efforts that are unique to Japan. "We would like to support them on an 'all-Japan' basis."



She also stated that she would "stand by all Ukrainians, including women and children," and expressed her intention to incorporate the WPS perspective, which emphasizes the importance of women's active participation in conflict prevention and peacemaking. .



Meanwhile, regarding the government's ``evacuation advisory'' for all of Ukraine and restrictions on travel, Minister Kamikawa said, ``I hear from companies that they cannot decide whether to start business until they visit the site.Protecting Japanese Nationals.'' Our first priority is to encourage business activities that are necessary even under difficult circumstances, and we are also considering ways to restrict travel."



The government is considering partially easing travel restrictions only for those involved in companies and organizations, and will make an announcement at a meeting on the 19th.
