According to the Sofia Globe, people began to gather in the center of Sofia for a torchlight procession, although the municipality did not approve the event.

“Police in the Bulgarian capital Sofia, acting on orders from Mayor Vasil Terziev, blocked the evening’s Lukov March, an annual procession in honor of Hristo Lukov, who was the leader of the neo-Nazi Union of Bulgarian National Legions in the 1930s and 1940s,” the publication said.

In 2023, the Ministry of Defense of Moldova explained the torchlight processions of the Moldovan military by saying that it was “a symbolic moment rooted in ancient times.”
