Camps housing thousands of displaced people in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, near the Egyptian border (Palestinian press)

Perhaps the most difficult and complex question in the “21st century,” according to many pioneers of social media platforms, is the question of the people of Gaza, displaced from the north of the Strip to its south: “After Rafah, where will we go...”?

It may be the most difficult and complex question of the twenty-first century, the question of our people in Gaza:

After Rafah, where do we want to go?

- Ali Abo Rezeg (@ARezeg) February 14, 2024

This question was frequently repeated among the displaced, especially after the end of the last round of talks between the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Israel regarding the truce in Gaza, without achieving a breakthrough, amid increasing international calls for Israel to retreat from its planned attack on the city of Rafah.

The displaced people, who were forced to move from north to south several times, specifically in the city of Rafah, their last resort, are wondering where they will be sheltered after the Israeli occupation army launched a bombing operation that killed more than 100 martyrs in a night that the displaced people described as terrifying.

The Gazans displaced to Rafah revealed on the “X” platform what they think about every day, “My family and I talk about the same topic, and we gather together every day and look at each other, and our eyes are full of confusion, anxiety, tension, and terror! Where do we want to go after Rafah?”

Every day, my family and I talk about the same topic while we are together and we look at each other, our eyes full of confusion, anxiety, tension, and terror!

The question is, where do we want to go after Rafah?!

We must arrange how many tents if we go to Al-Mawasi!

How will we divide our situation to reduce the number for some!

Ok, kids, how will we provide them with a good environment?

The situation of the people of Rafah: 1.3 million displaced people after the decision to invade Rafah!

Each one of us prepared a bag with necessary and important things. Which bag can hold our memories? Which bag can hold our dreams? Even if I put away all my clothes and took everything that belonged to me, I feel a big hole in my heart that where are we still going?

While others confirmed that they did not sleep at night thinking about the place they would flee to after Rafah was their last refuge.

None of us slept without thinking about where we wanted to go after Rafah

It's not a good morning at all 💔 #Gaza_is_exterminated #Rafah_under_bombardment

A young Gazan woman who was displaced several times in search of a safe place in the southern Gaza Strip, specifically in Rafah, which is home to 1,400,000 Palestinians, posted a post saying that if the occupation launches a military ground operation on Rafah, where will we go?!

There are currently about 1.3 million displaced people from other areas in the Gaza Strip residing in the city of Rafah who fled due to the Israeli aggression on northern Gaza about 4 months ago, in addition to about 250,000 of its original residents, in an area not exceeding 64 square kilometers, and all of them are threatened with displacement, amid fears. From the occurrence of new massacres, the city of Rafah is considered the last refuge for the people of the Gaza Strip, despite being subjected to continuous bombing.

On the 135th day of the Israeli war on Gaza, the Israeli occupation forces continued to bomb many areas in the Gaza Strip, including Rafah and Khan Yunis in the south of the Gaza Strip, Deir al-Balah and the Nuseirat camp in its centre, while arrest campaigns and storming of cities continue in various governorates of the West Bank.
