On February 16, 2024 local time, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with British Foreign Secretary Cameron on request while attending the Munich Security Conference.

Wang Yi said that at present, the international situation is intertwined with events, the Cold War mentality has emerged, protectionism is rampant, economic recovery is slow, and global challenges are coming one after another. As both permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, China and the UK should strengthen strategic communication and play their due role in promoting security and maintaining peace. To this end, both sides should work together to expand areas of convergence of interests, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, properly handle differences and conflicts, and push China-UK relations back to the right track of healthy and stable development. This is in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of both countries and is also the common expectation of the international community.

Cameron said that the UK is willing to view UK-China relations from a strategic perspective, develop more constructive bilateral relations with China, and manage differences and solve problems in a mutually respectful manner. The UK will continue to promote cooperation in areas that serve the common interests of both sides, and looks forward to strengthening dialogue with China on renewable energy, economy, trade, education, etc. As permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, Britain and China should jointly safeguard peace and security and build a better world.

Wang Yi said that China is a major country with the best record of peace and security. China's development is the growth of peaceful forces and the enhancement of stabilizing factors. We advocate and practice true multilateralism, firmly uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core, the basic norms of international relations with the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter as its core, and the international order based on international law.
