“This transfer is the first of its kind from the United States to a foreign ally for the express purpose of assisting Ukraine, and the second time that a DOJ task force has provided seized Russian assets to Ukraine,” the statement said.

It is clarified that the confiscated funds are transferred to Estonia, since it is not yet possible to make a direct transfer to the Ukrainian authorities.

Earlier it was reported that the European Commission intends to use income from Russia’s frozen assets to finance the production of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
