The emeritus bishop of

San Sebastián Juan María Uriarte

died this Saturday at the Basurto hospital in

Bilbao

, where he was admitted after suffering a stroke last Sunday, as reported on social networks by the bishop of San Sebastián, Fernando Prado.

Uriarte was born in Fruniz, Vizcaya, on June 7, 1933 and was ordained a priest on July 28, 1957. Graduated in Theology from the Pontifical University of Comillas and in Psychology from the University of Leuven, he was a trainer at the Minor Seminary of Bilbao , as well as Spiritual Director of the Major Seminary of Bilbao (1963-70).

Juan Marñia Uriarte was named

Auxiliary Bishop of Bilbao

on September 17, 1976 and consecrated Bishop on October 11 of that same year and then Bishop of Zamora on October 17, 1991. Appointed Bishop of San Sebastián on January 13, 2000, He took possession on February 27 of that same year, a diocese of which he was in charge until 2010.
