The National Airports Office in Morocco (government) expects the number of passengers in the country to rise to 30 million people by the end of 2024, according to what Anadolu Agency reported.

The year 2023 witnessed more than 27 million passengers, an increase of 32% compared to 2022, according to the same source.

A statement from the office expected that Marrakesh Menara Airport (north) would witness an increase of about 23%, Agadir Airport (central) 22%, and Tangier Airport (far north of the country) 13%.

According to the statement, the number of passengers traveling through the country’s airports increased by 15% during January 2024, compared to the same month last year, and reached two million 277 thousand and 827 passengers.

According to the statement, the international market represents 91% of the total air traffic.

The Ministry of Tourism said that the number of tourists who visited the Kingdom reached 14.5 million in 2023, an increase of 34% compared to the previous year.

She added, in a statement earlier this February, that the sector’s revenues exceeded $10 billion in 2023 for the first time.

Morocco is betting on attracting 17.5 million tourists by 2026.

Tourism is the country's second source of foreign exchange during 2023 after remittances from Moroccan expatriates abroad amounting to approximately $11.5 billion.

Tourism contributes about 7% to Morocco's gross domestic product.
