A leading source in the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) said that “negotiations cannot be held while hunger is eating away at the Palestinian people,” while an Israeli minister expressed the occupation army’s need for a long truce.

The source added that Hamas intends to suspend negotiations with Israel until aid and relief enter the northern Gaza Strip.

In this context, the Israeli newspaper "Haaretz" quoted a minister in the security and political cabinet (Cabinet) as saying that the Israeli army's need for a long truce in Gaza is no less than Hamas' need for it.

The cabinet held a meeting a week ago to discuss proposals for a prisoner exchange deal with Hamas, and the proposal was also discussed at a war council meeting.

For several weeks, disagreements have grown in Israel and its government following the failure of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to achieve any of the goals of the war, the first of which was the return of detainees and the elimination of Hamas.

The Israeli war government, or emergency government, was formed on October 11, following the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza.

The war council within the emergency government consists of 3 main members: They are: Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Benny Gantz, along with two observer ministers, Gadi Eisenkot and Robin Dermer.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has launched an aggression against the Gaza Strip, leaving tens of thousands of civilians martyred and wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe and massive destruction, which led to Israel appearing before the International Court of Justice on charges of genocide for the first time. The first since its founding.
