• The Constitutional Council invalidates the postponement of the presidential election in Senegal: the country's highest court ruled on Thursday that the law adopted by Parliament to postpone the vote until December 15 violated the Constitution and must be annulled. A decision which creates uncertainty, while the postponement caused a shock wave in the country and violent demonstrations. On Friday, President Macky Sall pledged to organize the presidential election “as soon as possible”.

  • New diplomatic chapter between Egypt and Turkey: while the two countries had been at odds for ten years, Egyptian Presidents Abdel Fattah al-Sissi and Turkish Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced Wednesday in Cairo that they were opening "a new page" in their relationships.

  • Triumphant parade of the Elephants in Abidjan and presidential reception: after their triumph in the CAN 2024 final against Nigeria, the Ivory Coast players paraded with the trophy on Monday in Abidjan, acclaimed by tens of thousands of people. They were then received on Tuesday by President Alassane Ouattara during an official reception where they were decorated and awarded. 

  • Kenyan Kelvin Kiptum, marathon world record holder, dies in an accident: the world of athletics is in mourning a few months before the Paris 2024 Olympics. Kelvin Kiptum died in a road accident in central Kenya on Sunday. Many tributes were paid to the marathon record holder (in 2 hours 00 minutes and 35 seconds), including that of Kenyan President William Ruto who praised “an extraordinary athlete who left an extraordinary mark”.

Violence in Senegal: the government and the opposition blame each other

After violent demonstrations in Senegal, a march planned for February 13 against the postponement of the presidential election was once again banned by the authorities. While three Senegalese have died since February 9, the government and the coalition of opponent Bassirou Diomaye Faye accuse each other of having ignited the powder.

“The Eye of the Marabout”, the comic book story of children of the war in South Sudan

In the comic strip, "The Eye of the Marabout", Jean-Denis Pendanx tells how two children managed to survive in the hell of the civil war in South Sudan. The cartoonist accompanied Unicef ​​to the country during a humanitarian trip, to a huge camp in the middle of the savannah managed by the United Nations. Some 130,000 people found refuge there to flee the civil war in 2016.
