“The Ecuadorian side confirmed that the country, given its neutral status and permanent membership in the UN, cannot allow itself to be drawn into the conflict on anyone’s side,” the diplomat told RIA Novosti.

According to him, Ecuador’s position is not to supply weapons to hot spots, but to help resolve conflicts peacefully.

When asked whether this means that the country will not transfer Russian equipment to the United States, the ambassador answered in the affirmative.

“This will become known formally at the beginning of next week,” Sprinchan added.

On January 10, Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa announced that his country would transfer Russian-made equipment to the United States in exchange for new equipment worth a total of $200 million.

The Russian Embassy subsequently stated that such a decision would be an unfriendly step on the part of Ecuador.

The Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation emphasized that the transfer of military equipment to a third party could negatively affect Russian-Ecuadorian relations.
