Residents of the Gaza Strip continue to head towards the city of Rafah (Reuters)

The United Nations warned - today, Wednesday - that the people of Gaza are threatened with displacement, and stressed that Israel’s measures aim to create conditions that make the Strip uninhabitable, and this is considered an act of genocide, while the World Health Organization announced that the Israeli authorities have only approved less than half of the... Aid sent to Gaza.

The UN rapporteur on human rights and counter-terrorism, Ben Saul, told Al Jazeera that there is no justification in international law for what Israel is doing in the Gaza Strip, stressing that Israel rations the quantities of relief materials sent to the Strip.

Saul stressed that everything Israel does in the Gaza Strip exposes the Palestinians to the risk of forced displacement.

He added that Israel is launching random attacks in Gaza, and called on the United States to stop exporting weapons to Israel, saying that Washington did not use all its tools to pressure Tel Aviv.

Uninhabitable

For his part, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to adequate housing, Balakrishnan Rajagopal, said that the displacement of more than a million Gazans towards the city of Rafah in the south of the Strip is a disaster, especially since they are deprived of basic life needs such as water, food and sanitation.

He stressed that what is happening in Gaza exceeds all conflicts in the world, and that the extent of the ferocity of the conflict is unprecedented, adding that destroying the Gaza Strip and making it uninhabitable is an act of genocide.

He also mentioned that many Israeli statements show a desire to expel all Gazans from the Strip.

Overcrowded hospitals

For his part, the representative of the World Health Organization in the occupied Palestinian territories announced that the Israeli authorities have approved less than half of the WHO missions concerned with delivering aid to Gaza, while the hospitals there are completely overwhelmed and do not have sufficient supplies.

He explained that doctors are forced to perform amputations due to the lack of treatment methods that enable them to save patients’ limbs through surgery in a natural environment.

He added that since November, the Israeli authorities have approved only 40% of the World Health Organization’s missions to northern Gaza, adding that since last January, this number has decreased significantly, while in the south, the percentage of aid that Israel has allowed to enter is To 45%.

He stressed that even if there is a ceasefire, there must be humanitarian corridors so that the World Health Organization, the United Nations and their partners can do their work.

The Israeli aggression against the besieged Gaza Strip since the seventh of last October resulted in the death of 28,576 Palestinians and the injury of 68,291 others, in addition to thousands of missing people who are still under the rubble.
