South Korea: North Korean hackers hack a member of the presidency

North Korean hackers would have struck again. This time they managed to obtain the personal emails of a member of the South Korean president's team, Yoon Suk-yeol, according to Seoul's intelligence services.

The presidential office confirmed the information, specifying that the data leak took place before a trip by the head of state to Europe last November. If the elements obtained by the hackers have not been revealed, the news is cause for concern in South Korea.

A private email address used by an employee for professional purposes. This is what would have allowed the North Korean regime's hackers to access the email of one of the members of President Yoon Suk-yeol's team.

, a local newspaper, assures that messages sent by the head of state would be affected as well as his agenda during his visit to the United Kingdom and France last November.

Creation of fake online betting sites

The presidential office, however, assures that its overall security system was not affected by the attack. This embarrassing news for the head of state follows other revelations from South Korean intelligence services. A North Korean group recently created fake online betting websites and sold them to criminal organizations in the South.

United Nations sanctions monitors against North Korea are currently investigating 58 cyberattacks that allegedly allowed the regime to obtain around $3 billion between 2017 and 2023. South Korea, for its part, is seeking to prepare to face the threat of 

North Korean cyberattacks

which are expected to intensify in the run-up to legislative elections in April.
