According to a study published on February 14 by a university in New Jersey, 18% of Americans believe that Taylor Swift is part of a plot aimed at having Joe Bien re-elected as president of the United States next November. This theory was reinforced by the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl victory. Explanations.

Nearly one in five Americans believe Taylor Swift is secretly working to re-elect President Joe Biden. This study, published Wednesday February 14 by Monmouth University, in New Jersey, was carried out on 902 American adults over the past week. Among them, almost half admit to having heard of this conspiracy theory. The majority of Americans who admit to believing in it are Republican voters, the study reports.

A rigged Super Bowl finale?

This survey about this conspiracy theory was motivated by the Super Bowl, the high mass of American football, which became the most watched program of all time when it was broadcast on Sunday February 11. The championship final pitted the San Francisco 49ers against the Kansas City Chiefs. The latter won the match, creating disturbance among some spectators. Supporters of Republican Donald Trump believe that Joe Biden rigged this victory to satisfy Taylor Swift, in a relationship with Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs player.

For followers of this theory, the supposed links between the superstar and the American president date back to 2020. Taylor Swift then gave her support to Democrat Joe Biden, by attacking Donald Trump's policies on social networks. According to some Trumpist voters, the current president therefore wants to once again attract the favor of the global popstar and benefit from his influence before the next presidential election, scheduled for November 2024 in the United States. Faced with these accusations, Joe Biden joked on social networks, insinuating that the Super Bowl had taken place “exactly as we had planned”.

Taylor Swift, icon with very real influence

Still, one thing is certain: Taylor Swift has real influence when it comes to politics. According to the Monmouth University survey, two out of three Americans approve of the political involvement of Taylor Swift, who last September encouraged her fans to register to vote: more than 35,000 new registrations were then recorded.

And it doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon, since the singer with 281 million followers on Instagram is breaking popularity records with her world tour "The Eras Tour". On February 4, she even received the prestigious Grammy Award for best album for the fourth time in her career. This summer, she also ranked as the female artist with the most number 1 albums in sales.
