Every morning, Jean Zeid delivers the best in terms of innovation. This Thursday, he is interested in the Moulinot company which has deployed a concept of pre-treatment and massification of collections, an alternative to composting and agricultural methanization in the niche of food leftovers from catering, catering trades, food distribution and communities.

This Thursday morning, we are interested in the boom in organic waste collection.

The Agec law, the anti-waste law for a circular economy, now requires communities and businesses to equip themselves with organic waste collection solutions, even if this obligation is variable. I live in a town in the Paris region where nothing has been put in place, for example. So there is obligation and obligation.

But since January 1, 2024, each community must offer a composting solution to its residents.

A boon for young companies in the sector, right?

And it is cities in particular that need these new solutions that large groups cannot or want to offer. In Angers and Bordeaux, the Moulinot company has deployed a concept of pre-treatment and massification of collections, a solution that it has been putting into practice for ten years in the Paris region. Moulinot is an alternative to composting and agricultural methanization in the niche of food leftovers from catering, catering, food distribution and communities.

But are there also solutions for individuals?

There are lots of people there: Hector Le Collector in Toulouse, Sikle in Strasbourg, Binhappy in Le Havre, Bicycompost in Bordeaux, Ouicompost in Lyon, Altergaïa in La Rochelle.

The company Bee & Co has even imagined a first prototype of a pocket methanizer: the BioBeeBox. So in your pocket, it must be understood, this methanization unit works with two containers that fit into two parking spaces. Nothing bad in the cities and the annual processing capacity is still 30 tonnes of bio-waste without too much odor, the manufacturer promises us. The food biowaste specialist Tryon environment had the same idea: building small methanization units in urban or peri-urban areas. It plans to build one in Le Mans in Sarthe, by early 2025. A solution adapted to the city in any case and to local needs. Generally, it is more to do with companies which collect organic waste in a more traditional way.

What is their business model?

It's service delivery. The person who produces the waste pays according to the number of passes and the weight. Generally, the vehicles used are electric, hence a strong need for initial investment in markets that are too small to excite the giants, for the moment.
