Macron informed Netanyahu that the attack on Rafah would lead to the forced displacement of residents (Reuters)

French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday informed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of his strong opposition to a possible Israeli military attack on the city of Rafah, south of Gaza, stressing that this could only lead to a greater humanitarian catastrophe.

Macron said in a phone call with Netanyahu that the attack on Rafah will lead to the forced displacement of residents, which will constitute a violation of international human rights and increase the risk of regional escalation.

He stressed the necessity of opening the port of Ashdod, a direct land route from Jordan, and all crossings to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, considering that the lack of humanitarian aid is unjustified.

The French President stressed the urgent need to reach, without further delay, an agreement on a ceasefire that guarantees the protection of all civilians and the entry of emergency aid on a large scale.

He also stressed the need to stop Israeli military operations in the besieged Strip, because the human toll and the humanitarian situation have become unbearable.

Macron denounced Israel's settlement policy, calling for the dismantling of settlement outposts and avoiding any action that would lead to an uncontrolled escalation in Jerusalem and the occupied West Bank.

France expressed its support for the two-state solution with the continued aggression on the Gaza Strip and its rejection of Israeli statements calling for the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.

It is noteworthy that Macron supported what he described as “Israel’s right to self-defense” in the wake of the Al-Aqsa flood on October 7, but he quickly called on Israel to stop killing children and end the war in the Gaza Strip.
