Hazem Suleiman aspires to be one of the Palestinian journalists who contribute to conveying the suffering of the residents of the Gaza Strip during the war (Anatolia)

Palestinian journalist Hazem Suleiman (33 years old) defies difficulties with one leg, as he moves on his bicycle through the streets of the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, and in his hand is his mobile phone, through which he documents the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on the Strip.

With extreme caution, Suleiman moves between the devastated streets and the ruins of homes, takes photos and videos, listens to the testimonies of survivors, and then publishes them on social media.

The journalist does not care about his leg, which was amputated as a result of a gunshot from the Israeli army in 2018. Rather, he strives to shed light on the human suffering to which the people of the Gaza Strip are exposed, in light of the continuing war since October 7, 2023.

On his bicycle, Suleiman moves quickly between the targeting sites, with his smartphone ready to document every moment in minute detail.

In light of his documentation of the tragic events in the Gaza Strip, Suleiman also seeks to photograph footage that reflects the beauty of life and the innocence of childhood in his city, in addition to the lives of the displaced in the camps and daily activities in the streets of Rafah.

Suleiman aspires to be one of the Palestinian journalists who contribute to conveying the image of the suffering faced by the residents of the Gaza Strip during the war. Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Suleiman explained that he lost his leg to Israeli army gunfire in 2018 during the Return Marches.

The Return Marches began on March 30, 2018, and continued for 21 months, during which more than 200 Palestinians were killed, including children, women, and paramedics, according to human rights statistics.

Suleiman added that his dream since childhood was photography, and that his injury prompted him to work hard to document the crimes of the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people.

He expressed his pride in conveying the message of suffering while he is disabled, stressing that he will remain steadfast in conveying suffering to the entire world.

At the same time, regional and international warnings are escalating regarding the Israeli bombing of Rafah with preparations for a ground invasion, and reports indicate that this is dangerous for hundreds of thousands of displaced people who have taken refuge there as a last refuge in the far south of the Strip.

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, which, as of yesterday, Tuesday, resulted in the death of 28,473 Palestinians and the injury of 68,146 others, most of them children and women. It also caused massive destruction of infrastructure, leaving an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe,” according to Palestinian and international reports.
