The US Ambassador to Doha, Jimmy Davis, said that the United States and its Arab friends continue to work to stop the war in the Gaza Strip and establish an independent Palestinian state, stressing that the State of Qatar in particular plays an essential role in this regard.

Davis confirmed in an interview with Al Jazeera - today, Wednesday (02/14/2024), that he has nothing new about the negotiations that took place in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, yesterday, Tuesday - but he said that the mediators are working to reach a solution to the conflict between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel. And to find an irreversible plan in order to move forward in establishing a Palestinian state and provide a secure future for both peoples, as he put it.

Davis said that there is cautious optimism among the mediators who believe that the two parties' acceptance of talking to each other could lead to an eventual solution, stressing that everyone in the region knows what the opportunities and challenges are for the future of the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian people.

He added, "Diplomacy requires direct discussions and understanding from all parties concerned, and we are optimistic because everyone is ready to sit down to find a solution to the crisis."

Regarding the Qatari role in this file, Davis said that the State of Qatar played an essential role in reaching a humanitarian truce between Hamas and Israel and then in the possibility of reaching a permanent cessation of fighting, noting that Doha “has been the primary supporter of the Palestinians for years and has provided humanitarian aid to them and has always had a desire to secure “Food, jobs and a decent living for families.”

Davis stressed that this Qatari interest in the Palestinians "continued after the seventh of last October through mediation efforts to release the hostages, including the Americans."

He added that Qatar also formed "a platform and opportunity for Israel and the Hamas movement to be able to exchange proposals and ideas in order to reach a solution to this conflict," stressing that its role is "essential in this regard."

Regarding the increasing escalation in the Red Sea, the American ambassador said that the United States places securing maritime navigation as a primary goal, noting that the Houthi group’s activities on navigation have been reflected in the market around the world.

He explained that Washington's efforts included ensuring that the Houthis were unable to target ships without consequences.

Regarding the mutual escalation between Israel and Lebanese Hezbollah, Davis said that everyone does not want this escalation to expand, including Israel, expressing the United States’ hope to work with everyone to secure a safe future for Lebanon.
