The warning of a possible threat to national security has sparked guesswork in the United States. House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner released a statement Wednesday saying his committee had "provided information about a serious threat to national security" to all members of Congress.

Turner is calling on US President Joe Biden to make all information about this threat publicly available. Then “Congress, the administration and our allies can openly discuss the steps necessary to address this threat,” the Republican said in a statement. The Republican did not specify what type of threat this was.

Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan also did not provide any further information. When asked at a press conference in the White House, Sullivan confirmed that he had scheduled a briefing for the so-called "Gang of Eight" for Thursday.

The “Gang of Eight” includes high-ranking members of Congress from both parties who can be briefed by the president on secret service activities and covert operations. Sullivan said he was somewhat surprised that Turner spoke publicly about the issue before the meeting. He did not respond to several questions about what type of threat it was. After the meeting, further steps will be discussed.

The President of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, meanwhile told reporters: "We are working on it and there is no reason for alarm." It is not in a position to pass on the secret information. "But we would like to reassure everyone that we have the steering wheel firmly in our hands."

A statement from the Senate Intelligence Committee said it also had the information. The matter was followed from the beginning.
