Only one in two TGVs should run this school holiday weekend due to a controllers' strike. The SNCF provides “exceptional compensation” for those who are unable to travel. Europe 1 takes stock of the conditions to benefit from it.

A new hassle will have to be managed for many French people who are going on vacation by train this weekend of February 17 and 18. Since Wednesday and until Sunday inclusive, the CGT and Sud-Rail are calling on SNCF controllers to strike for better pay and better consideration of arduous work.

The movement should be followed by 70% to 90% of crew chiefs, according to the unions. And as their presence is essential for the trains to run, traffic is expected to be extremely disrupted. On the traveling side, many questions arise. Should you cancel your ticket? Is the ticket refundable or exchangeable? Europe 1 answers you.

Several reimbursement options

For travelers whose train is canceled, several options are available to them, informs the SNCF. It is possible to exchange, free of charge, on all TGVs where there is still space until Monday February 19. The railway company notes that around 300,000 tickets remain for sale on the TGVs in circulation.

It is also possible to benefit from a 100% refund of the ticket price only if the customer cancels their trip planned between Friday February 16 and Monday February 19 inclusive. For these people, an additional exceptional measure is applied.

An exceptional offer

SNCF offers a reduction on the next TGV or INTERCITÉS trip. These customers will automatically receive, within one month, a code giving entitlement to 50% off a future trip, provided they book it within 30 days. No additional steps are required.
