The author and historian Annika Brockschmidt set the stage in 2021 with her book “America’s God Warriors. “How the Christian Right Endangers Democracy” presents a bestseller. In it she examined the ever-growing movement in the USA of the radical Christian right. She rejects state power, dreams of “white supremacy” and, in her own opinion, is waging an eternal war against evil.

In the “Moreno+1” podcast, host Juan Moreno talks to Brockschmidt about her new book: “The Arsonists. How extremists took over the Republican Party." In her work, Brockschmidt describes the slow and systematic radicalization of the Republican Party in the United States. Starting from the aversion to the civil rights movement that emerged in the 1960s, to the illegal machinations of US President Richard Nixon, to the rise of openly radical talk show hosts such as Rush Limbaugh, Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity.

»But the current state of the Republican Party must serve as a cautionary tale for European conservatives about what happens when you get involved with extremists. From now on - no matter how pathetic it may sound - nothing less than American democracy is at stake in each of the coming elections in the USA," writes Brockschmidt.
