Nabiullina noted that social engineering is increasingly moving into the credit front: people are increasingly taking out million-dollar loans and giving money to scammers.

“According to our statistics, every fourth ruble stolen from a bank is borrowed funds,” she emphasized.

According to the head of the Central Bank of Russia, victims of online scams are reimbursed less than 10% of stolen funds; the long-awaited turning point in the fight against cybercriminals has not happened.

Earlier, the Bank of Russia announced the suppression of fraudulent thefts totaling 5.8 trillion rubles in 2023.
