Amman -

Minister of Government Communications and official spokesman for the Jordanian government, Dr. Muhannad Al-Mubaidin, said that the 2023 Asian Cup final was between two Arab brothers, Qatar and Jordan, and that the cup was Arab.

Al-Mubaideen's statements came in an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera in the Jordanian capital, Amman, on Tuesday.

Al-Mubaideen said that the Jordanian achievement in the Asian Cup was the result of the path and performance of the Jordanian team, and that reaching the final in itself is an important achievement that would not have been possible without the great efforts made available to the team at the level of the federation’s management, the technical team, the coach, and the players who represented the team excellently.

The minister spoke about the fact that traditional media may be far from young people, and "we need to develop the means of platforms to reach them. Today, attention must be paid to the nature of the discourse directed to young people, the method of easy and quick access, and testing the timing."

The minister said, "We need a clearer Arab discourse that is more attached to reality, raises current problems, and interacts with the needs of young people."

Victory for the best content

Al-Mubaideen stressed that newsrooms have changed their concept and form, and we must interact with them in a different way, indicating that depth and details are important, along with the necessity of brevity, and we must think even beyond social networking sites.

He added that victory will be for whoever provides better content, and the battle is the content and the future is the content.

He stressed that we must work on direct and fast platforms that provide news to people and verify it. “It is true that good news drives out bad news, but at the same time you need rapid dissemination and a rapid flow of information, and you must not leave people in vain, and provide them with the correct information.”

Al-Mubaideen stressed that the platform or influencer must check before publishing, and take into account the circumstances and the truth, as the issue is not just a recording or “tweeting” (re-publishing) or a live broadcast, adding that the basis is professionalism and accuracy.

Al-Mubaideen warned against being lax in creating journalistic content, noting that it is necessary to obtain appropriate training, and stressing the importance of specialized journalism, such as medical and community journalism.

Image battle

Regarding the role played by social media activists during the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, Al-Mubaideen said that Israel realized that its battle was a battle of image, stressing, “If it were not for the mechanisms used by social media activists, the Israeli narrative would have remained perhaps the dominant one.”

Al-Mubaideen stressed that what changed the positions of the media and even the vocabulary were these activists and field journalists, some of whom were martyred, as they reported the suffering of their people and were targeted because they had a great influence.
