From this Wednesday, the dematerialized driving license comes into play throughout the country for all French motorists who request it, but on one condition: you must first have the national electronic identity card.

Gérald Darmanin announced on Wednesday the generalization throughout the territory, and for motorists who request it, of the dematerialized driving license, tested in three departments since last May. Is the pink paper really finished?

To obtain it, you will need to have the national electronic identity card

The system will allow you to exercise your right to drive with your mobile phone during road checks or when renting a vehicle, argued the Minister of the Interior traveling to the National Agency for Secure Titles (ANTS) .

An option offered to motorists but to obtain it, it is essential to have the new national electronic identity card. A step prior to any procedure since this new card is equipped with an ultra-secure electronic chip which will allow you to access the France Idêtes application, developed by the National Agency for Secure Titles (ANTS).

Go to the My Permit Points website

If you have this new identity card, you can then generate your license on this same application by scanning a QR code obtained on the My Points Permis website. Once downloaded, this digital license will be accessible everywhere, all the time and even without a network. In the future, other documents will suffer the same fate such as the registration document and the insurance certificate which will also be downloadable to your phone. However, the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, recalls that there will be no obligation to go digital.
