After three weeks of social crisis, the lifting of blockages remains hypothetical. The commitments made by the Ministry of the Interior were sent this Wednesday morning to the citizen groups who are paralyzing the archipelago. This letter contains the measures taken on Sunday by Gérald Darmanin. Among them, the end of land law and the launch of Operation Wuambushu II.

A letter to confirm commitments. In a three-page text, Gérald Darmanin puts in writing his promises made on Sunday during his trip to Mayotte to emerge from three weeks of social crisis on the archipelago. In this letter, sent this Wednesday to the citizen groups blocking the island, the Minister of the Interior confirms the end of land law, the launch of Operation Wuambushu II, and the end of the territorialized residence permit.

By way of conclusion, the tenant of Place Beauvau calls for the lifting of the dams which are “suffocating the island”. A message directly sent to the citizen groups who erected these barricades. Collectives who, having read the letter, are confronted with internal differences over the continuation of their movement.

Mayotte: what does the “maritime iron curtain” announced by Gérald Darmanin consist of?

“I’m used to them looking down on us.”

“We have made a commitment to remove the barriers to receiving mail. There is the end of the residence permit, the Mayotte law, everything is there,” proclaims a demonstrator to the cries of contradiction from her comrades. “I’m used to seeing them look down on us even on their commitments that they don’t implement!” denounces a refractory roadblocker.

The debates on a hypothetical lifting of barriers are likely to last. In his letter, Gérald Darmanin also promised that he would return to Mayotte if, and only if, the blockages stop.
