US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that countries in the region have expressed their willingness to reconstruct the Gaza Strip, in response to an embarrassing question asked by a journalist about whether the United States would ask Israel to reconstruct the Gaza Strip just as it is asking Russia to reconstruct Ukraine.

One of the journalists asked Miller, "You say that Russia must pay for the damage it caused in Ukraine. Does that apply to Israel bearing the cost of the destruction it caused in Gaza?"

Miller replied, "What we hear is that countries in the region have expressed their willingness to participate in the reconstruction of Gaza, and I do not mean Israel, but other countries that will contribute financially and politically."

He said that these countries will participate in the reconstruction of Gaza, but they expect a return from Israel, and therefore we are talking about the two-state (solution) path.

He said that the policy we must pursue is the path proposed by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, which will lead to reconstruction and avoid the question that you put on the table (holding Israel responsible for reconstruction).

When he was repeatedly asked about Israel’s responsibility for reconstruction, the American official said, “We are still at the beginning of the road and far from its first steps now,” to which the journalist responded, “The same applies to Ukraine, as the war there is not over yet.”

The American official replied, "Once again, we have not reached that stage yet in these talks."

The Israeli war on Gaza has entered its fifth month, causing massive destruction and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, according to the United Nations, which led to Tel Aviv being tried for “genocide” before the International Court of Justice for the first time since its establishment.

Yesterday, Tuesday, a meeting was held in Cairo to discuss the truce in the Gaza Strip and the exchange of prisoners, with the participation of CIA Director William Burns, Mossad Chief David Barnea, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, and Egyptian officials.
