A great tradition of Lovers' Day, roses no longer have a good press today. Not very ecological because they are imported in winter, these flowers are also three times more expensive in February compared to the rest of the year. So what are the alternatives to offer your sweetheart?

Be loving and eco-responsible. Although Valentine's Day is celebrated less and less in France, certain traditions continue to delight lovers, such as an outing to a restaurant or a bouquet of flowers. But be careful when choosing these! The rose, an inseparable flower from Valentine's Day, is not the best flower to offer for the occasion, for the planet or for the wallet.

The rose flowers naturally in France from May to October. In winter, it is therefore inevitably cultivated in heated greenhouses, in the Netherlands - the leading European producer - or even further afield, such as in Ecuador, Colombia or Kenya. Consequence: roses sold in France are three times more expensive than the rest of the year, in addition to having suffered from transport.

Ranunculus, camellia, anemone… Tour of seasonal flowers

To show your love, choose seasonal flowers! Some represent very good alternatives like the ranunculus, less known than the rose but just as elegant. Round in shape and shaded in different colors, it also carries a message of seduction. Like the buttercup, the camellia is a fleshy, round flower, pink, red or white.

But if you want to be original, other flowers can compose a magnificent colorful bouquet: the tulip, the pansy, the anemone or even the daffodil. These flowers, all seasonal, have an infinite number of different colors. Accompanied by a bright yellow mimosa, they will be a real eye-catcher. A way to buy French… while preserving your wallet.
