The Supreme Court opens a criminal case against a senator from the Canarian Coalition for crimes of false testimony and false denunciation

The Supreme Court (TS) has agreed to open a procedure against the Canary Coalition senator

Pedro Manuel Sanginés Gutiérrez

, for alleged crimes of false testimony and false denunciation that he would have committed when he was president of the

Island Council of Lanzarote

.

As reported by the high court, the

Criminal Chamber

has adopted this decision after having received a reasoned statement from the Criminal Court Number 3 of Arrecife since it became aware that Sanginés Gutiérrez had acquired the status of senator for the Canary Islands, which means its approval before the TS.

has been appointed investigator of the case according to the established shift after the Chamber verified that there are indications of the commission of criminal acts by the senator, from whom the

Prosecutor's Office

requests a year and a half in prison and disqualification for a crime of false testimony.

The facts for which Sanginés Gutiérrez is being investigated date back to 2009, when he held the position of president of the Island Council of Lanzarote and the

Public Entity of Local Business

(Center for Arts, Culture and Tourism) and voluntarily appeared before the police units of

Costa Teguise

, to report irregularities in the contracting of certain services committed by various people.

According to the prosecutor's indictment, included in the Supreme Court ruling, the now certified person made the complaint, narrating irregularities that constituted several crimes against the Public Administration, "with the intention of violating the objective truth, and with manifest contempt for it." ".

Subsequently, the leader testified as a witness in the judicial proceedings opened by his complaint, and "upon oath or promise to tell the truth", "he again stated, lacking the objective truth, the same irregularities in the contracting of services charged", always according to the Prosecutor's Office brief.

In 2019 he gave a new witness statement in the proceedings in which he maintained the previous accusations, and a few days later that case was provisionally dismissed, according to the Prosecutor's Office's account.
