President Emmanuel Macron has decided not to force second-hand booksellers to leave the banks of the Seine on the occasion of the Paris Olympic Games, while the opening ceremony must take place on the capital's river.
Emmanuel Macron has decided to abandon the planned movement of the second-hand booksellers' boxes installed on the banks of the Seine in preparation for the opening ceremony of next summer's Olympic Games in Paris, the Elysée announced on Tuesday. “Noting that no consensual and reassuring solution could be identified with these actors”, “the President of the Republic asked the Minister of the Interior and the Paris Police Prefect that all second-hand booksellers be preserved, and that none of them is forced to be displaced,” the same source explained.
