As strengthening food security becomes an issue due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine and climate change, a summary of the proposed amendments to the Basic Act on Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs, which is considered the ``constitution of agricultural policy'', and related bills were released on the 13th. This was demonstrated at a Liberal Democratic Party meeting.

At the Liberal Democratic Party's agricultural policy meeting held on the 13th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced a proposed amendment to the Basic Act on Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas, as well as measures to address food shortages, in order to strengthen food security. Among these, the proposed amendment to the Basic Law


aims to ▽stable imports of agricultural products and agricultural materials to ensure food security, and


▽improves the management base of agricultural corporations for sustainable development of agriculture. The company plans to work on improving productivity by strengthening its operations and utilizing smart technology.



In addition, the new bill, which includes measures to deal with food shortages, states that if it is determined that it is necessary to prevent food shortages, a task force headed by the Prime Minister will be established, and rice, wheat,

to request producers to expand production.



Furthermore, if it is difficult to resolve the situation, the government may instruct businesses to submit or change plans regarding production and shipping, and businesses that do not submit plans will be subject to a fine of up to 200,000 yen.



The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries plans to have the Cabinet approve these bills in late February, with the aim of enacting them during the current regular session of the Diet.
