“To ensure the safety of citizens and prevent tragic consequences, socially dangerous animals, as well as carriers of diseases dangerous to humans or other animals, are subject to humane euthanasia,” the regional parliament said in a statement.

The functions of identifying relevant signs were assigned to veterinarians.

Animals will be killed in temporary holding centers or shelters “using humane methods that guarantee a quick and painless death.”

Earlier, the parliament of the Astrakhan region approved a law allowing the euthanization of aggressive stray dogs.

In October, the press service and information department of the administration of the governor of the Astrakhan region told RT that federal authorities had not shown interest or support for the idea of introducing painless euthanasia of stray dogs after a six-month stay in a shelter.
