Armenia announced the killing of two soldiers by fire from Azerbaijani forces in the southern Syunik region, and this came a day after Azerbaijan accused its neighbor of wounding a soldier in an attack on a border guard site.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Tuesday that “units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire with small arms towards Armenian combat positions in the Nargin Hand region,” noting that two soldiers were killed and a number of others were wounded.

On the other hand, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense said that Armenian soldiers opened fire twice late Monday on the village of Kokhanabe in the Tuz region (northeast), something Armenia denied.

Yesterday, Monday, Baku announced that an Azerbaijani border guard soldier was injured as a result of gunfire from the Armenian side.

The Azerbaijani Border Service reported in a statement that the soldier was injured after the Armenian army opened fire on Azerbaijani border guard positions in the village of Kulugishlak in Zangilan Governorate.

Azerbaijan stressed that "Armenia's military-political leadership bears full responsibility for this provocative incident."

Armenia and Azerbaijan have been in conflict for more than three decades over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, and on September 20, Azerbaijan announced that it had regained its sovereignty over the region after a rapid military operation, and the Armenian separatists handed over their weapons and military equipment and withdrew from the region under a ceasefire agreement.
