Fellow Al Jazeera correspondent Ismail Abu Omar said, in his first intervention following the amputation of his right leg as a result of an Israeli bombing he was subjected to, along with photographer Ahmed Matar, that “the occupation missiles will not hide us, and we will continue our march until the image of Gaza reaches the whole world.”

Abu Omar added, during an intervention with Al Jazeera, that his message is for the world to look at the people of Gaza, who have endured more than they can bear, expressing his deep regret at the state of disappointment for not stopping the bloodshed, “as if our message has no echo in the world.”

The Al Jazeera correspondent reassured everyone of his condition, and said: “I am fine, and in better health conditions compared to what was the case an hour ago,” stressing that “there are no taboos for Israel in this crazy war on Gaza.”

Regarding the Israeli bombing that he and his colleague Matar were subjected to, Abu Omar said that they were covering the Qaizan al-Najjar area in the southern Gaza Strip, where the Internet could be accessed, and they documented a bombing that targeted Palestinians next to them by reconnaissance aircraft, and they subsequently decided to leave the area.

He pointed out that they decided to go to the European Gaza Hospital after the area they were in became a target, "but the reconnaissance planes targeted them with a missile, and they did not stop flying in a strange way."

Regarding the condition of fellow photographer Ahmed Matar, Al Jazeera’s correspondent said that he has been in intensive care and has been in a coma since the moment of the bombing, and he has shrapnel in his head and other areas of his body, before concluding his intervention by saying that the occupation “drowned us in blood and targeted all categories of the Palestinian people, including journalists.”

Earlier, Abu Omar and Matar were seriously injured after they were targeted by an Israeli drone in the Mirage area, north of the city of Rafah, which immediately led to the amputation of the first’s right leg and the severe injury of his left, while the other was seriously injured in one of his hands.

Doctor Muhammad Al-Shaer, a specialist in the Department of Vascular Surgery at the European Hospital, reported that the first surgical operation was completed for colleague Abu Omar, during which an amputation was performed above the knee in his right foot and the bleeding in his left foot was stopped, and his condition became stable after the return of vital signs.
