Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdullahian the developments in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories, the expanding circle of violence in the region and its repercussions on regional and global security and stability.

During the meeting, the Qatari official stressed Qatar's call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, the protection of civilians, and ensuring the continued unhindered flow of humanitarian aid to the Strip.

A few days ago, the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the UN Security Council to take urgent action to prevent Israel from invading the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, and committing genocide in the city.

The State of Qatar continues its mediation efforts between the parties to the war in order to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, amid cautious optimism towards concluding an exchange deal for prisoners and detainees between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel.

Qatari mediation - with Egyptian-American support - succeeded in reaching a temporary humanitarian truce in Gaza on November 24 between Hamas and Israel, and it lasted a week during which 240 Palestinian prisoners were released from occupation prisons in exchange for the release of more than 100 detainees held by the resistance in Gaza. Among them are about 80 Israelis.
