The MEP is convinced that, as the conflict in Ukraine comes to an end, it is necessary to gradually overcome the mistrust that exists between the European Union and Russia, “so that the European continent can restore unity and security.”

“It is clear that the UK, US, Turkey and other non-European global actors are benefiting from the split between the EU and Russia by promoting their policies and exporting extremely expensive defense systems,” the parliamentarian said in his address.

In his letter, he also noted that during the Second World War it was impossible to imagine the reconciliation of France and Germany, but later it was the rapprochement of these two countries that formed the basis for the unification of Europe. Moreover, the EU is making attempts to get closer to Serbia after the NATO bombing, Frangos recalled.

“The clear goal must be to overcome all the obstacles that have arisen in the heart of Europe, so that Europeans, united, can make an effective contribution to the progress of humanity, as they have done in the past,” the deputy believes.

Against this background, Frangos asked Borrell whether he believed that rapprochement between the European Union and Russia would bring mutual benefits.

“Are there, at least in theory, any contacts on the basis of which future relations between the EU and Russia could be built?” - he asked.

Earlier, the acting permanent representative of Russia to the European Union, Kirill Logvinov, said that Brussels “easily and naturally” cut off all practical interaction with Russia. According to him, the EU risks being excluded from modern processes of transformation of international relations.
