According to the German tabloid Bild, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Defense Minister Boris Pistorius attended the groundbreaking ceremony for Rheinmetall's new weapons plant in Unterluss in northern Germany. The plant plans to produce up to 200 thousand shells per year, including for self-propelled guns, which were transferred to the Ukrainian army.

According to Papperger, Ukraine needs more than 2 million shells per year, while Germany wants to produce up to 700 thousand shells per year by 2025. According to the head of the company, it will take 10-15 years to replenish the stock of shells in the European country.

Bundeswehr Inspector General Carsten Breuer previously announced that in 2024 Berlin will transfer 200 thousand artillery shells to Kyiv.
