Due to errors in the 2021 election, the federal election was repeated this Sunday in around a fifth of Berlin's electoral districts. The CDU and AfD were able to gain there compared to 2021, while the SPD and FDP lost approval.

At the same time, voter turnout in the repeat voting districts fell significantly, from almost 77 to 51 percent. Based on the result in Berlin as a whole and nationwide, most parties lost the absolute number of second votes.

Impact on vote shares

In the updated Berlin overall result, this means that the Greens lose slightly - despite their slightly increased share of the vote in the repeat electoral districts. The gains of the CDU and AfD also have an impact on Berlin's overall result, as do the losses of the SPD and FDP. The changes here are around one percentage point each.

The Germany-wide result of the 2021 federal election will only change minimally as a result of the partial repetition in Berlin: the AfD's share of second votes will increase, and that of the Greens and FDP will decrease slightly.

The repeat election is also accompanied by personnel changes in the German Bundestag. All members of parliament elected by first vote in 2021 were able to defend their direct mandates. But the reduced absolute number of second votes is leading to shifts in the list mandates. According to preliminary results, the FDP loses one seat. For the SPD, Greens and Left, the Berlin state associations each have to give up one seat to a different state list.

Results in the electoral districts

The partial repetition affected 455 of Berlin's 2,257 ballot box voting districts and the associated 294 postal voting districts. In this map you can see the results in these electoral districts:

The Federal Election Committee is expected to determine the official final result on March 1st. Until then, those MPs who, according to the preliminary results, will lose it will be allowed to continue to exercise their mandate.
