Gérald Darmanin announced, this Sunday, February 11, in Mayotte, an already controversial constitutional revision intended to remove land rights on the Indian Ocean island, facing a serious migration crisis and an explosive social and security situation. “It will no longer be possible to become French if you are not yourself the child of French parents,” he declared, assuring that this measure was “extremely strong, clear, radical” and intended to “literally cut off attractiveness" of the archipelago, will be "obviously limited to the Mayotte archipelago".

The Minister of the Interior also gave indications on the establishment of a maritime iron curtain to prevent the arrival of illegal immigrants.
