Accident in
Port Aventura
, the park located between Vila Seca and Salou: up to 14 injured, two of them in critical condition, after a tree fell on the
Tomahawk
roller coaster , one of the attractions at the site.
According to the company, the strong wind storm that hits
Catalonia
today has caused a tree to fall near the attraction. Some of the branches have directly impacted the users who were on the carriages, causing the accident.
The two injured people in critical condition have been transferred to the
Bellvitge Hospital (Barcelona) and the Joan XXIII University Hospital
in a medical helicopter from the Medical Emergency Service. Three other less serious cases have also been referred to nearby centers, specifically the Santa Tecla Hospital and the Reus Hospital.
In a statement, the park management assures that it is an event "completely unrelated to the operation and maintenance" of the attractions and they attribute the event to the strong wind that is blowing today in the
Tarragona
area .
Sources from the Catalan police explain to Europa Press that they have opened a technical investigation and that they have moved with 5 crews.
