Al Jazeera obtained exclusive scenes documenting the first moments of a child and a girl being exposed to direct fire from an Israeli sniper who was stationed close to where they were walking at the “Abu Iskandar” intersection in the Sheikh Al-Radwan neighborhood in Gaza.

According to information obtained by Sanad Agency - affiliated with Al Jazeera - from family sources, the incident occurred on December 31, and its victims were the child Imad Hazem Abu Al-Qara’ (4 years old), and the girl Hadeel Haroun Abu Al-Qara’ (20 years old), a student. In the first year of university in medical school, they are both cousins.

Hadeel was accompanying her cousin Imad to go to a nearby supermarket to get food.

Sanad obtained exclusive video testimonies from the families of the boy and girl, and new details will be published in the coming hours.

The Israeli army has previously carried out numerous sniping operations against civilians in Gaza in front of their families and children in similar incidents and during their displacement.

Since last October 7, the Israeli army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza that, as of Sunday, left 28,176 martyrs and 67,784 injured, most of them children and women, in addition to thousands missing under the rubble, according to the Palestinian authorities.

It also caused massive destruction and an unprecedented catastrophic humanitarian crisis, with scarce supplies of food, water and medicine, and the displacement of about two million Palestinians, that is, more than 85% of the population of the Strip, according to the United Nations.

Following the atrocities committed in the Gaza Strip, Israel faces accusations of committing genocide before the International Court of Justice, for the first time in its history, which was welcomed regionally and globally to put an end to Israel’s impunity, while this faced American opposition.
