According to him, a constructive political dialogue between Paris and Moscow was maintained even during the steep turns of the Cold War.

“Moreover, he then acted as a stabilizing factor, helping to find solutions to complex, explosive problems. At some stage, Russia and France even reached a real strategic partnership,” the diplomat said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

The agency's interlocutor added that today political contacts between the countries have been completely interrupted, and this is the choice and responsibility of the current leadership of France. Russia, according to him, has never shied away from communication.

Earlier, France appealed to the European Union to increase defense spending due to the “Russian threat.”
