Gaza -

In conjunction with the rising voices in Israel threatening a large-scale military operation in the city of Rafah, this city in the far south of the Gaza Strip on the border with Egypt is witnessing the targeting of police patrols charged with maintaining security and securing humanitarian aid trucks.

During the past four days, 12 leaders and members of the police of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) were martyred in the city of Rafah as a result of Israeli air strikes that targeted their personal cars and official cars marked with police colors and markings, working to control the security situation and secure aid trucks coming from the Rafah land crossing with Egypt.

Palestinian circles place this targeting in the context of a “systematic plan” whose goal is to confuse the internal front and create a state of chaos and security chaos that Israel seeks, coinciding with its threat to launch a large ground military operation in the city of Rafah, which, according to the government media office, is home to approximately 1.4 million people, representing more than Of half the population of the Strip.

Commenting on the growing targeting operations against the Rafah police, its director, Brigadier General Riyad Al-Qadi, said that it is “a crime that violates international and humanitarian law” and aims to “strike the internal front.”

In his statements, which were circulated by the police, the judge said, “Police members are well-known and spread out in the streets and public places in their uniforms (..), and the police and all its departments continue to work around the clock to secure the home front, organize daily life matters, and protect public institutions and markets in light of the Israeli aggression.” brutal attack on the Palestinian people.

The police director reassured Rafah residents and those displaced there that the police forces “will continue to carry out their tasks to maintain security and stability, and will remain by their side despite the targeting, and we will not back down from that, no matter the sacrifices.”

Why Rafah police?

In turn, political science professor Dr. Hossam Al-Dajani sees this concentrated and growing targeting of the police as a plan by Israel through which it seeks to “disrupt internal security and strike the popular incubator and the home front in the Gaza Strip.”

This targeting - in Al-Dajani’s opinion - is an episode of a major Israeli series that did not exclude aid trucks, including aid from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), targeting 120 people carrying out relief work in international institutions, as well as targeting employees of the Ministry of Social Development in Palestinian Authority, Ramallah.

Based on this, Al-Dajani believes in his interview with Al-Jazeera Net that the operation is integrated within the framework of a war on humanity, and is part of the genocidal war that Israel is committing for the fifth month in a row.

Al-Dajani does not rule out that targeting the police and restricting the humanitarian work system is an attempt by Israel to “trim the nails of the entire police, security and humanitarian work system in Rafah in order to pave the way for a large ground operation, and it may be in order to pressure to achieve gains in the negotiation process (the prisoner exchange deal and the ceasefire deal). Fire) in Cairo.

Undermining Hamas's rule

For his part, political analyst Ibrahim Al-Madhoun told Al Jazeera Net, "The occupation is concerned with creating a vacuum in the Gaza Strip and putting pressure on the popular incubator through chaos and destabilizing security in order for the Palestinian people to transform from a state of steadfastness, cohesion, and organization to a state of dispersion, displacement, and chaos."

Among the occupation’s goals for targeting the police - according to Al-Madhoun - is “to strike all aspects and manifestations of the sovereignty of the Hamas-led government to show that it has achieved a tangible achievement. After targeting the health and education system and all aspects of life and its facilities in the Gaza Strip, it now wants to destroy the security system in order to undermine any stability whose name is the movement.” agitation".

He said, "The occupation wants to create new realities through which it can control the shape and future of the Gaza Strip after the war, and therefore it fights all manifestations of security and stability by all means."

Chaos schemes

In a position statement, the “Home Front” - which is a digital platform that supports the Palestinian resistance - said that the police formed “the fortified shield of resistance and stood as an impenetrable barrier against the attempts of those who tamper with internal security and those seeking to stir up chaos, infringe on rights, and bypass the law, and secured humanitarian aid trucks - especially to Gaza and the northern governorates - despite the extreme danger that accompanies these missions.”

The Home Front appreciated "the role of the police and security services in protecting the back of the resistance, confronting security and economic violations, combating crimes, and prosecuting suspects."

In order for this role to continue, she called for “joined efforts from the various segments and sects of our people, and for everyone to stand up to their responsibilities in order to maintain security and societal peace and protect the back of the resistance.”

As one of the solutions to confront this plan, Al-Dajani suggests forming “neighborhood cells and committees in the regions, neighborhoods, and camps to curb anyone who dares to carry out actions that only serve the occupation and support its plans by spreading chaos.”

Not far from what Al-Dajani suggested, Al-Madhoun calls on the security and police system to invent tools to avoid Israeli targeting with camouflage and hide the remarkable movement in the field, and to invent new ways through which it can play its role in cooperation with popular forces and tribes in cities and neighborhoods.
