American actress Selma Blair deleted a comment she wrote on Instagram, in which she attacked Islam and Muslims and described them as “terrorists,” after she was subjected to harsh criticism.

Salma's deleted comment came on a video clip of a Syrian Jewish refugee named Abraham Hamra, in which he criticized US Representatives Rashida Tlaib and Cori Bush, for being the only two members of Congress who voted against a measure that would prevent anyone who participated in the "Al-Aqsa Flood" attack on October 7. Salma faced violent reactions on social media platforms, as the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned her comment and called on her, in a post on the “X” platform yesterday, Saturday, February 10, 2024, to apologize to Muslims and engage in dialogue with the American Muslim community.

The council quoted Muslim rights lawyer Edward Ahmed Mitchell as saying, “Based on the ignorant and hate-filled statements made by Ms. Blair, we doubt that she has had any positive interactions with her Muslim colleagues in Hollywood or any members of the American Muslim community.”

CAIR added in a statement, “We encourage Ms. Blair to apologise, and we also call on her to engage in dialogue with our community. Who is Selma Blair?

American actress Selma Blair was born on June 23, 1972 in Southfield, Michigan, USA. She is the youngest of 4 daughters to a mother who works as a judge and a father who is a lawyer.

Her parents divorced when she was 23 years old, and she later changed her last name from Peytons to Blair. Blair comes from a Jewish family on her father's side, while her mother was of Scottish origins.

Blair was raised Jewish, before she officially converted to Judaism when she was in the second grade of primary school, and called herself "Bat-Shiva."

In 2011, she gave birth to her son, Arthur, and after his birth, she and his father, designer Jason Blake, separated.

Selma Blair published her memoirs and provided shocking information about her past, as she indicated that she drank alcohol when she was 7 years old, and later became addicted to it until she quit it in 2016.

She also revealed that she was raped during college, after she drank alcohol excessively, and she disclosed that she was sexually assaulted during her teenage years by one of the administrators of Cranbrook Boarding School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

In October 2018, Selma Blair revealed that she had multiple sclerosis on her Instagram account, and began working actively with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of America and the American Association for People with Disabilities.

Blair documented her journey with the disease, treatment, and challenges she faced in a 2021 documentary.

In one scene, Blair lies in bed before a round of initial chemotherapy, which she was prescribed as part of a treatment known as hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, a high-risk procedure aimed at rebuilding the immune system.
